Chingle Hall Visit

The first time I went to Chingle Hall was back in the 90's, I was not a paranormal investigator at that time, and I was there on a fund raising event. There I was me and seven complete strangers, plus Jason Karl (Most Haunted, series one) he worked at Chingle Hall as a guide at the time. Six of the other seven knew each other, only me and one bloke (Tony) had gone there alone, and as luck would have it we got on very well, it turned out that we both had the same sick sense of humour. Tony was about the same age as me and the other six were university students (studying to be researchers).

It was a strange night all round, the ghosts picked on me all night too everyone's amusement.

The night started off well, Jason took us on a tour around Chingle Hall, telling us about the different ghosts that have been seen over the years, and the ghosts he has seen, and how scared he was sometimes. We got to pink room, I was at the back and last one to go in to the room, I walked in and put my cigarettes on the mantelpiece and I sat in the chair (it was a hot summer and I wore shorts). As I sat there listening to Jason telling us the history of this room, I felt something brush/stroke my leg, so I rubbed my leg in case there was something on me, at the same time Jason looked straight at me and said "Your sat in Elena chair, if Elena likes you she will stroke you" he paused for a moment as I was still rubbing my leg, he then said "She's been stoking you hasn't she" with a big cheesy smile on his face, I just nodded with embarrassment. As we left the pink room I went to pick up my cigarettes but they had vanished, I asked who had taken my cigarettes but they all said they hadn't touched them. Jason then said that Elena sometimes take things but she does give them back later, I replied "She can take anything she likes, but not my cigs" and everyone laughed. After we had been around the blue room we went back down stairs to the great hall, as I opened the door I saw my cigarettes on the table (I was the first person through the door) how the hell did they get there, we were the only people in the house and we were all together?

Later when Jason had gone to bed, we sat at the table in the great hall having a cuppa and the chandler above my head started swinging, at this point I hadn't seen it; I only saw the look on everyone's face as they looked above my head. When I saw it, I changed seats and the chandler stopped but then the chandler that was above the second chair started to swing, so I went and stood by the window (no chandlers by the front window).

At about 1am we all went out and walked around the grounds, most of us heard the faint sound of children laughing, were they ghosts? We don't know, the children's laughter could have come from the house opposite to Chingle Hall. Tony went back inside first, I had a feeling he was up to something but I didn't know what, I soon found out. Tony stood behind the big heavy front door, he'd brought a scary old man mask with, he was stood behind the door ready to jump out and frighten everyone, it worked and we all had a good laugh about it once the screaming stopped. By 2am the students were all tucked up in their sleeping bags and unconscious. Tony and I were sat chatting when we heard plates, cups and cutlery rattling in the kitchen so we went to investigate, the kitchen was quiet when we got there, so we had a cuppa. It was then that we decided to scare the crap out of the students. We went outside and shone our torches through the windows of the great hall and scratched at the windows, we could see them sliding further down in their sleeping bags and shaking. God it was funny.

The morning came and the students finally got up, we sat having breakfast and talking about our night in Chingle Hall. The students told us about all that had happened to them once they got in their sleeping bags, I felt sorry for them at this point, we had scared the crap well and truly out of them. A good night all round.

Cats from the grave.

I'm a great cat lover and I have had cats most of my adult life. But unfortunately we lost our cats, Jess (18) on 21 st Sep 2005 and Rocks (15) on 15 th June 2007. The funny thing is my cats had a male cat (that we call Pimp) that called every day and was very friendly both Jess and Rocks. When Jess died we buried her in her favourite spot in the garden. Both Rocks and Pimp would lie next to Jesse's grave and look very melancholy. Quite often they would get up and start playing and reacting as they did when Jess was with them, Pimp would even move quickly as if to avoid a swipe off another cat when Rocks was nowhere near him and then he would hiss at thin air.

When Rocks died we buried her in her favourite spot in the garden (under a bush were no-one could see her, her favourite hiding place). I must say at this point, when we buried Jess both Rocks and Pimp were asleep inside the house and we did such a good job on the grave that you couldn't tell were we had buried jess. When we buried Rocks, Pimp was nowhere around and once again the grave site - if you looked for it you wouldn't find it, you couldn't tell that any of the ground had been disturbed. Pimp still comes every day and stays for quite a few hours, he lays in the garden looking straight at the spot were Rocks is buried, he seems very sad and lonely, and he really misses our Rocks.

One of the funny things that our Rocks liked to do was curl up in a plant pot in our little glass green house thing, it was her way of being warm outside in winter. We decided to make this Pimps little pad, we put a mat, a cushion, catnip and his food in there but he will not stay in there, he gingerly creeps in and just snatches a mouth full of food and jumps out again to eat it. We keep saying "Rocks is in there and won't let him in.

On 27 th August 2007 Pimp arrived at about 8pm, as normal looking for food, loves and cuddles and he got all three. The next thing he starts rolling around the floor like he always did when he was after getting up to no-good with our Rocks, it was strange, and both my daughter and I felt like Rocks was there. I got my mobile and started taking photographs of Pimp, I took 5 photographs in about 2 minutes, the first 3 photographs are normal but the 4 th one show something strange, the 5 th photograph is normal. At first I thought Pimp had moved as I took the photograph, and yes he moved his head slightly but I hadn't moved, and as you can see, there is some sort of white mist surrounding him and the flash off my phone is reflected back off the mist so that tells me there was something there even though neither my daughter or myself saw it with our naked eyes.

This is not a one off incident with Pimp, quite often when Pimp is in the living room he will follow something around the room with his eyes. Sometimes he will just start hissing at thin air and his tail fluffs out like he's warning another cat, there's no other animal in the house

The old iron works in St Helens

We were approached by the owners of a local metal works in Febuary 08, to investigate the strange goings on that where happening there. The only thing we found out about the building that it was built near old mine workings. After interviewing the owner and staff, we decided to go ahead with a vigil.

The information given by the owners was, things moved within the building while they were working. If they left the room, when they returned they claimed that tools or other objects where left balanced on other items, for example a spanner was balanced on top a gas bottle. There where shadows that were seen on numerous occasions walking across the back wall. The image of a small boy had been seen by many people on the roof of the inner office. The owner's son said he had lots of photographs of strange things that have happened over the years. The son who was an ex army soldier who had seen action in Iraq, was himself spooked by working in this metal works, and claimed it was very unnerving at times.

The night of the vigil was a very cold and windy night; we arrived at about 9pm and set up our equipment. There were four members of our team, with the owner and his son. We experienced allot of problems with the equipment, things breaking for no apparent reason, e.g. tripods for cameras breaking, the emf meter plug started smoking when plugged in.

Anyway we trunggled through with the investigation, taking temperature readings setting barrier alarms. It was 9 degrees when we started the vigil in the factory, as the night wore on the temperature dropped, but the thermometer inside the building continued to read 9 degrees. The beam barrier alarm kept sounding off, but no readings on our emf meter where present.

To sum up our investigation the vigil did not really turn up anything extraordinary, other than the equipment breaking down and the strange temperature readings. We will keep in touch with the owners of the works to log anymore incidents.
